Director & Event Designer

Ian is the owner and driving force of Activities & Events Unlimited. With nearly 30 years’ experience in the industry, Ian has the knowledge, passion, creativity and ability to transform the smallest of ideas into the most amazing reality. He is a qualified builder, which often comes into play for his amazing prop builds and creations. Ian is also an experienced tour guide within the Rotorua area and around New Zealand. Ian’s on-job but off-key singing is often heard at our event set ups along with his great creative impact and team minded energy.

Logistics & Event Manager

Karen is our pint sized event manager that packs a punch! With a background in management, admin, accounts and the hotel industry she has a nose for the crucial details that ensures your event runs smoothly and on budget. Usually based in our office, Karen is focused on providing all the information and details you need. Using her critical and organisational skills she creates a well thought out  framework for any and every event.

Accounts & Lighting

Andy is our current accounts man. Found in the office Andy keeps us up to date with payments and accounts. He’s also often in amongst it on the job at several events or working with Ian on a build! Andy’s our go to man for any role, a great knowledge in lighting, prop building, and basically any job Ian needs him for; Andy has been his right hand man for the past 10 years. Andy has also recently been promoted to head of department of lanterns.

Marketing & Event Designer

Maddy is the newest edition to the team. Starting as a casual worker after finishing school, Maddy discovered her passion for events and the creativity the industry brings. Maddy is now involved full time, her flair, energy and out of the box thinking allows her to visualise and create new concepts and designs for any event. With her background in performing, Maddy works great with visual and entertainment based events, with strengths in room design and theming. She can be found anywhere from in the office to the workshop to onstage dancing!


Aaron, commonly known as Super Aaron by the team, is our resident muscle man. He is one of our greatly appreciated casual staff who has been a part of the team for the past 8 years.  


James started with Ian and Activities as a casual worker while still in school. His interest, creativity and passion drove him to learn more about the Audio Visual industry and towards his current successes. James now runs his own company, LUX Productions, and is still involved in helping Activities, using his lighting and technical skills.

Shay and Liam

Shay and Liam are our casual staff combo. Father and son working together with the team on a regular basis and an especially great addition to our late night jobs.


Andrew started working for Ian 5 years ago. He is a qualified engineer and a great creative addition to the team with his technical knowledge. Andrew took over Tour Magic, Ian’s previous tour company, in 2015, but still helps out at Activities when his skills are needed!

Our team has knowledge and experience in all fields of event management. Specialising in theming, room design, lighting, event management and coordination we can work with you in every and any aspect to make your event a success. We aim to be as flexible as possible to make your event and experience the best it can be.
